How the Charts Work

How the Charts Work:

1.  Find the Region you are in.

2.  Look in the orange box at the top and find that state you are currently in.

3.  The license plate that you saw will be the state highlighted in purple on the left.

4.  Example 1:  You are in Michigan and you saw a license plate from Arizona – that would be worth 40 points.

5.  Example 2:  You are in Ohio and you saw a license plate from Maine – that would be worth 53 points.

6.  Color coding -
Dark Green - Very simple to find - point range 1-5
Light Green - Simple to find - point range 6-15
Yellow - Moderate  - point range 16-55
Light Blue - Difficult to find - point range 56-75
Dark Blue - Very difficult to find - point range 76-100.

A short explanation – these scoring charts are based on a methodology where the population of a state is divided by the distance to that state’s largest metropolitan area (other mathematical adjustments were made to make the scoring from 1-100).

The distance from Fargo, ND, to Dallas, TX, is the same regardless of which direction you are heading - north or south.  However, the populations are different.  So, if you are in Texas and you see a ND license plate – that is far more difficult to find than a Texas license plate in ND as Texas has a much larger population.  So, in my charts, finding a ND license plate in Texas is worth more points than finding a TX license plate in ND.
